Medical Records Review at VC – Here’s How it’s Done

Medical Records Review, or MRR, is an important function that Visual Connections performs for its Federal clients.  Here’s an informative look at how we do it!

The medical records review (MRR) function is staffed with clinicians, data analysts, financial analysts, program managers, technical writers, and administrative staff.  Most of our senior level staff have experience ranging across private and public sector entities including health care, data management and mining, and information technology disciplines.

A key component of the MRR function is our senior and mid-level health information management professionals, holding certifications with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Our team performs medical record evaluation, review, and coding requiring a keen level of attention to detail, and knowledge of coding across hospital, physician, and specialty settings.  Our team’s quality focus verifies medical/health records are complete, accurate, and diagnosis codes are abstracted properly using commonly used encoder tools.

Data analysis is a key competency we also perform -- collecting, managing, and analyzing health data for the appropriate capture of utilization and cost information, informing sound decision making. Our team is particularly well versed in chronic condition disease processes and coding.  Additionally, our team offers comprehensive knowledge of medical, administrative, ethical, and legal requirements and standards for healthcare delivery and privacy of protected patient information.  All our HIMs professionals have proven knowledge of anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, basic ICD diagnostic/procedural and basic CPT® coding.  We offer experience in coding for office-based physician practices, nursing homes, home health agencies, mental health facilities, and public health agencies.

The medical record review (MRR) function is led by me, as the Visual Connections Senior Program Director.  I bring 12 years of private sector financial management and risk assessment experience coupled with 17 years of federal government health-related programming, policy, and operations leadership to the role.  I am also a member of the American Public Health Association (APHA).

Thanks for your time in learning more about MRR at Visual Connections, and please contact us if our team can help you with MRR on your next project!
